Martyn Ford and his team in chambers are celebrating their recent charity fund-raising success. Will Aid have confirmed that in 2018 Swansea Law Chambers raised £3,292 in vital funds for charity by volunteering their time and expertise to write people’s wills in exchange for charitable donations.
Martyn Ford of Swansea Law Chambers gave up some of his practice’s valuable time in November to take part in Will Aid, an annual campaign which raises money for nine of the UK’s best loved charities. This year Swansea Law Chambers raised the second largest amount for charity across Wales overall.
This is the fourth year that Martyn Ford has taken part in the scheme, but was by far the best year ever for Swansea Law Chambers. In total, Swansea Law Chambers has raised £5,607 for Will Aid which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2018.
Scott Tuppen, now a consultant, said:
“This is a superb initiative which enables millions of people in the UK who do not have a will to have one professionally drafted.”
“A will is one of the most important documents a person will ever have drafted. Every clause, every comma and every full stop can change the entire meaning of a will. It is vital that people use a solicitor, barrister, CLC or CILEX practitioner to provide them with this important document.”
“Meanwhile, Will Aid raises money for some of the most vulnerable people worldwide. We are proud to be part of it.”
Will Aid has raised more than £20 million in donations, and many millions more in pledged legacies, for charity since it launched 30 years ago.
Jon Jacques, chair of Will Aid said: “We are very grateful to all those who give their time to write wills and all those that have made a will and given a donation, for their generous support.
“The nine partner charities use these donations and legacies left by will makers to transform the lives of people in need, both here in the UK and all around the world.”
Peter de Vena Franks, campaign director, said: “Thanks to the commitment of local professionals that took part in Will Aid 2018, many people both in the UK and abroad will receive life-changing support, and local people who used the scheme have gained peace of mind thanks to having a professionally drawn up will.”
“I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to Swansea Law Chambers for their incredible efforts in 2018.”
Will Aid takes place every November. Those participating volunteer their time and expertise and waive their fee for writing a basic will.
These donations support nine of the UK’s best-loved charities – ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sightsavers, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (N. Ireland).
The suggested voluntary donation for a basic Will Aid will is £100 for a single will and £180 for a pair of mirror wills.
